Jo by John

This is a picture of Jo who died from CUP in September 2006 just after her 46th birthday. She was an intelligent, modest, brave, talented, beautiful, selfless, generous and stylish person; above all she was a friend. She was my friend and wife.

When Jo - a graphic designer - was diagnosed with cancer, and the primary site could not be identified, we felt as if we had been thrown back into the dark ages. Why, in this day and age, is it not possible to find the primary site?

Different tests produced different ideas. The initial suggestion, following the biopsy of a secondary tumour, was of Ovarian cancer. This was discounted and Jo was treated initially for Breast and then Pancreatic cancer. Jo endured 3 different chemotherapy regimes over 8 months before she died. Her primary remains 'unknown'.
